Rev. Dr. Frank McGahey dies
The Synod of the Trinity expresses their sadness on receiving the news of the sudden death of the Rev. Dr. Frank McGahey on Monday, July 24, 2006. Frank had served as the Special Presbyter for Quadrant 3 (Southeast West Virginia) and as pastor of the Trinity Church in Shady Spring, West Viriginia from November 1998 until September 2004. He worked with churches seeking new pastors and with congregations in conflict, as well as being a pastor to pastors and other church professionals. Formerly he had served in the Kiskiminetas Presbytery in the Brookville Area and was a Commissioner on the Synod's Social and Racial Justice Ministries Unit from 1997-1998.
Frank was currently serving as Pastor of First Presbyterian Church, Baxter Springs, KS but because of the increasing problems with his diabetes, he was in the process of negotiating with the Board of Pensions for medical disability which would have become effective on August 31st.
There will be a memorial celebration of Frank's life on Saturday, July 29, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at his church, First Presbyterian Church, 133 East 12th St., Baxter Springs, Kansas in the John Calvin Presbytery. You may send expressions of sympathy to his wife, Kathy McGahey, at 1224 Garfield, Baxter Springs, Kansas, 66713.
During the September 7th meeting at First Presbyterian Church in Logan, the Presbytery of West Virginia will celebrate the life and ministry of Frank McGahey with special gratitude for the time he served among us.
A Memorial Service for Rev McGahey, who was formerly on the Kiskiminetas Presbytery staff serving the Brookville Area Ministry, will be held Saturday, September 23, 10:30 a.m. at the Pisgah Presbyterian Church in Corsica. A luncheon will follow.
