	Faith Notes from the Winter Meeting of the Synod of the Trinity Presbyterian Church (USA)
	Gathering in the Presbytery of Carlisle
	February 8-9, 2007

During the first meeting of the 290th year of the Synod of the Trinity of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), Gary Lyon (Clergy, Kiskiminetas) was installed as 2007 Moderator and Mary Speedy (Elder, Carlisle) was installed as 2007 Vice-Moderator

A Service of Installation was held at the beautiful Monaghan Presbyterian Church in Dillsburg, Pennsylvania, where the Rev. Charles Best is pastor and Mary Speedy serves as Director of Christian Education.

Elder Debra Hough, Vice-Moderator of the Presbytery of Carlisle, brought warm greetings from the Presbytery and the Rev. Jan Nolting Carter preached the sermon during worship.

Commissioners unanimously voted to keep the 2008 Synod per capita at $2.00 for the third year in a row.

Synod Executives, the Rev. Dr. Bruce Stevens and the Dr. Thomas Robinson, gave updates about their work promoting the missional church throughout the congregations of the Synod.  Many churches are participating in unique and inspiring ways to reach out to members and newcomers in the name of Jesus Christ. Workshops and supportive meetings are held on a regular basis to assist pastors and congregational leaders in these efforts.

Synod Review Team

Synod Commissioners and Executive Presbyters

Bettie Stammerjohn

took part in one phase of the Synod Review Team's work which is being

led by Elder Bettie Stammerjohn (Washington).  Conversations and research will continue throughout the review process as the Team looks toward making a final report in October of this year.

Six Synod Mission Networks were recognized for 2007: Adults with Disabilities Network, Eastern Church Transformation Network, Peacemaking Ministries, Presbyterian Medical Equipment Delivery Network, Resource Center Mission Network, and Trinity Youth Conference.

Commissioners had the opportunity to hear news from the Rev. Gary Harke who is the Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Council of Churches.  Ms. Catherine Lynch, East Coast Development Specialist, reported from the Presbyterian Investment and Loan Program and presented rebates to several Synod churches.

The next gathering of the Synod will be at the Summer Conference Meeting held June 13 - 15, 2007, at Arcadia University in Glenside, Pennsylvania in the Presbytery of Philadelphia.  The Rev. Joan Gray, Moderator of the 217th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), will be the featured speaker throughout the conference.
