Union Seminary & Presbyterian School of Christian Education awards two Synod congregatons
The Synod proudly congratulates Camp Hill Presbyterian Church, Camp Hill, PA and Crafton United Presbyterian Church, Pittsburgh, PA, as recipients of the annual Congregational Awards by Union Theological Seminary & Presbyterian School of Christian Education.  Six churches were awarded a $1,000 grant for Effective Ministries to assist the congregations. The awards were presented at the Union-PSCE luncheon at the Association of Presbyterian Christian Educators’ annual conference in St. Louis, MO, on Feb. 2, 2006.

The two awards presented were:

Sarah Hill Brown Award for Early Childhood Education

Camp Hill Presbyterian Church, Camp Hil, PA, was chosen for its weekday preschool that has served community children for over 50 years.  One of the few preschools in the area that accepts children with developmental delays, the Camp Hill Preschool offers innovative programs for children and their families.

Katherine Hawes Award for Effective Youth Ministry

Crafton United Presbyterian Church, Pittsburgh, PA was recognized for a youth ministry that invites elementary, middle, and high school-age children

from the surrounding community to particip

ate in church programs.  More than 50% of the participants come from low-income families.  The three groups involved with this ministry are the Youth Club (K-grade 6), the Adventure Club (grade 4 and up), and PYC (grade 6 and up).
