The most impressive and awe inspiring aspect of the trip we took to Long Beach Mississippi cannot be shown in our photographs. The reason is the photographs have border
s. They're finite. The destruction and devastation along the Gulf Coast knew no limits nor boundaries. To stop, and look, and realize that the first four to five blocks of the town no longer exist. All that's left are concrete slabs, a random set of steps, and an occasional course of concrete block.
Perhaps the most rewarding aspect of
the trip was when our resident Mary just gushed with gratitude for us being there. She couldn't imagine that folks just would pick up and give up a week of their lives to help complete strangers. Some may see what we did and say all we did was put up a few two by fours, run a little romex wire, and wrap a house with some Tyvek wrap. What we really did was followed Christ's example of service and commandment to love one another, bringing a little hope to an area where there was little.
