PDA needs: Volunteer Work Teams and
  Church to Church connections

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) is in urgent need of volunteer teams to assist in the cleanup of Gulf Coast and Florida areas and in church to church connections to help those damage or destroyed churches.

Volunteer Teams:

Individuals are encouraged to connect with a local church that is already planning a trip to the Gulf. Connecting is more than just calling and asking for space, as planning and preparing for a work team trip takes time, energy, money and flexibility. Be prepared to invest as much energy in getting ready to go as you expect to spend on the ground in the Gulf Coast.  Check with the nearest Presbyterian Church or presbytery to see if they know of someone planning a work team experience. Find a congregation near you. The local church should be able to tell you what presbytery you are in.

There are a wide variety of faith groups, college groups and civic groups who have already volunteered in the recovery and many others scheduled to come well into 2006. Presbyterian groups are given preference in scheduling, and every effort is made to find a place for each group with as much consideration to their needs as in possible in an operation of this size. We do not widely publicize the availability of the Volunteer Villages because of limitations of space and the capacity of the PDA Call Center to schedule groups and respond to inquiries.

Please consider sending a team.  Details with phone numbers are available.

Church-to-Church Connections:

PDA has received numerous calls from PC (USA) congregations throughout the country wanting to form a church-to-church relationship with one or more of the churches damaged or destroyed by the hurricanes.  If your congregation is interested in connecting and assisting with this effort, please read more here.
