Helping Hands Care Team seeks volunteers for disaster cleanup
Disaster Relief Team of the Lehigh Presbytery

The Helping Hands Care Team of Lehigh Presbytery is seeking volunteers to offer assistance to the victims of Hurricane Katrina along the gulf coast of Mississippi. The trip to Long Beach, Mississippi will involve reconstruction projects on damaged homes.  No specific skills are required, but be prepared to BE FLEXIBLE and provide whatever help is needed. Skills such as plumbing, electric, roofing and dry wall installation are helpful. Assignments can range from greeting volunteers to hard physical labor.

Because the response to previous trips has been so overwhelming, the Team is offering two opportunities to serve.  A two-week trip is planned for October 20, 2007, returning on November 4.  A one-week trip is planned for October 27, 2007, with return also scheduled for November 4.  Both groups will travel in rented vans, stopping mid-way to stay overnight with host members of Farragut Presbyterian Church, Farragut, Tennessee.

The work group will stay at the facilities of Long Beach Presbyterian Church. Bunk beds are provided as well as showers and bathrooms. The site has potable water.  Food is purchased and prepared by members of the work group.  The registration fee of $150 covers all but the cost of meals en route and incidental expenses.
