Derry Church announces Emerging Culture Conference

“Emerging Culture, Emerging Ministry,” a two-day conference designed to help church leaders and laypersons understand and adapt to major cultural changes occurring in today’s society, will be held February 10 and 11, 2006 at Derry Presbyterian Church, 248 East Derry Road, Hershey.  Co-sponsored by InterVarsity Christian Fellowship and Derry Presbyterian Church, the conference is designed to help pastors and church leaders understand the origins of postmoderinism and consider its implications for their ministry.

The Emerging Culture curriculum has been developed over the past six years by a team of InterVarsity staff, in partnership with numerous Christian leaders.  The curriculum kit will take participants through six experiential modules that will explore, analyze, and define the emerging culture.  Each module features scripture study, video, exercises, discussion questions and interviews by Christian leaders including Leighton Ford, Becky Pippert, Sally Morgenthaler and Dieter Zander.

Neil Livingstone will lead the Emerging Culture Conference at Derry.  Livingstone began ministering to college students in the mid 1980s, just as the leading edge of Generation X hit campus. For the past 20 years, he has been teaching and training both students and their campus ministers, and is dedicated to making the resources of scripture available to the church as it engages the emerging culture. Livingstone holds a B.A. from Johns Hopkins University and an M.A. in Theology from Fuller Seminary.

The conference will open with registration at 12:30 Friday, February 10 and cover three modules before concluding for the day at 9 pm.  On Saturday, February 11, the conference will be held 9 am to 4 pm and address the three remaining modules.  Cost is $60 per person for the two-day conference, three meals and a participant’s guide.  Reduced rates apply for those who plan to attend on only one day.  For more information and a registration form, call the church office at 717-533-9667.  Deadline for registration is January 31, 2006.
