RETREAT
FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES
The
18th Annual Retreat for Persons with Disabilities was held
on September 12-14, 2003 at the Kenbrook Bible Camp, Lebanon,
Pennsylvania. The retreat has been held at this location
for the past 15 years.
A
total of 35 attendees and 16 volunteers participated throughout
this weekend
non-denominational
event.
The
Rev. Eugene Wingert, associate pastor at Elizabethtown Church
of the Brethren, was this year’s speaker. Rev. Wingert
has been a member of the retreat design team for the last
several years, as well as having served as the executive
director of Kenbrook from the 1980s until 2000.
The
retreat’s theme was, “Walking With Jesus Through The Valley,”
and the scriptural reference was Hebrews 4:15b.
Friday
evening activities consisted of members from the Derry Presbyterian
Church leading the participants in worship and showing them
how to use the chimes and moroccos. Carolyn Day played
a solo on the cello. The participants made cards to send
out, framed their own pictures taken by the volunteers,
and helped to make their own T-shirts. Despite the
rain and missing out on one of their favorite activities,
canoeing on the lake, a good time was had by all.
Volunteers
came from the Lewistown Presbyterian Church, Derry Presbyterian
Church in Hershey, First Presbyterian Church in Lancaster,
and the Leacock
Presbyterian Church in Paradise, Pennsylvania.
Photos from
the event will soon be available in the Photo Gallery.
