Stated Clerk Clifton Kirkpatrick, Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) states "many important issues that will shape the life and future of the PC(USA) will be before this assembly. Commissioners and advisory delegates will spend a considerable amount of time in committee meetings and business sessions, seeking to discern and to represent the will of Christ for our church.

Friendships will extend beyond our own denomination. In recognition of the 300th anniversary of American Presbyterianism, our assembly will be held concurrently with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in America. While each denomination will have its own General Assembly, we will worship together, share a common exhibit hall, and have a number of joint presentations.

We will find ourselves at a unique moment in time in Birmingham — celebrating our rich heritage while, at the same time, utilizing the latest computer technology to do assembly business. It promises to be an exciting and enriching experience!"
