at September's retreat |
The
19th Annual Christian Retreat for Adults with Disabilities
was held from September 10-12, 2004 at the Kenbrook Bible
Camp, Lebanon, Pennsylvania. The retreat has been
held at this location for the past 16 years.
A
total of 18 attendees
participated throughout this non-denominational weekend.
The
Rev. Marie Buffaloe,
Parish Associate at Derry Presbyterian Church, was
this year’s speaker and spoke on the theme of “The Lord
is My Shepherd, I shall Not Want,” based on Psalm 23.
Friday's
activities consisted of registration, dinner, introductions
and singing. We were then entertained with a puppet
show presented by the youth of Derry Presbyterian Church.
It was enjoyed by all. After Session 1 led by Rev.
Marie, we had our evening prayers. Although the majority
of participants then went to bed, a few night owls stayed
up to chat.
Saturday
began with Rev. Marie's second presentation which she opened
for discussion and questions. The participants
enjoyed this immensely. Following free time and lunch,
each participant could choose from many activites which
included boating on the pond, a walk on one the many paths,
arts and crafts led by Derry Presbyterian, or shopping at
the bookstore or the camp store. This
is one of the favorite times during the retreat and the
participants had a great time. Singing followed our
dinner and on to session 3 with Rev. Marie. She handed
out little cottom lambs as remembrances of Psalm 23 and
our retreat. Evening prayers, snacks and then off
to bed.
Sunday
morning was
our annual worship service with singing and communion by
intinction. This is very important for the participants
as some do not get to church, much less get communion.
Because
Rev. Marie had a previous commitment, the fourth and final
session was led by another minister. Participants
then packed and were ready to leave before lunch which was
the final activity of our retreat.
